San Miguel Pale Pilsen, the country’s iconic brew that has become a symbol of Filipino pride worldwide, is celebrating its 135th anniversary with a commemorative “Balik Tanaw” can, paying tribute to its rich heritage and cultural impact.
For over a century, San Miguel Pale Pilsen has been a constant companion in gatherings big and small— from neighborhood celebrations to grand festivals—connecting generations through shared experiences and stories over a bottle of its award-winning beer.
To mark the milestone, San Miguel Brewery Inc. (SMB) collaborated with celebrated Filipino visual artist Francis Nacion to design the collectible can. Known for his stylized forms and distinct half-rendered visages that explore both light and shadow, Nacion infused the “Balik Tanaw” can with nostalgic imagery, reimagining traditional Filipino scenes where San Miguel Pale Pilsen is part of life’s most memorable moments.
“This creation was both intuitive and intentional,” Nacion said, noting that his works, inspired by traditional values and cultural significance, resonate with the brand’s deep-rooted history and national pride.
The limited-edition can is now available in select supermarkets, groceries, and convenience stores nationwide, as well as through SMB Delivers at 8632-BEER (2337) and www.SMBDelivers.com.
With 135 years of brewing excellence, San Miguel Pale Pilsen continues to be more than just a drink—it remains a cultural icon, woven into the fabric of Filipino life.
