Sportsman Miko Vargas and swimming legend Eric Buhain received a fresh mandate to lead Philippine Aquatics, Inc. (PAI), reinforcing continuity as the federation ramps up grassroots development and international ambitions.

Re-elected as President and Secretary General, respectively, Vargas and Buhain will serve another term following the PAI General Assembly and Election of Officers held at the Century Park Hotel over the weekend.

The assembly gathered regional directors and stakeholders from all aquatic disciplines, signaling a unified front as the organization charts its next phase of growth.

Also elected for the 2026–2028 term were Jojo Quilop as Vice President and Marie Antoinette Dimanche as Treasurer, with Anthony Reyes and Jess Arriola taking on roles as Executive Directors. The proceedings were witnessed by Atty. Wharton Chan of the Philippine Olympic Committee, ensuring compliance with the federation’s constitution and bylaws.

A key development was the approval of amendments to PAI’s bylaws, setting a two-year term for the current set of officers before transitioning to four-year terms beginning in 2028—an effort to ensure long-term stability in leadership.

Vargas underscored the importance of sustaining momentum, particularly at the grassroots level.

“This renewed mandate is a responsibility we take seriously. Our priority is to strengthen our grassroots programs and build a clear pathway for athletes—from the community level to the international stage,” said Vargas.

For Buhain, the focus remains on raising the country’s competitive standard.

“We want to see more Filipino swimmers and aquatic athletes competing—and winning—on the international stage. With stronger systems and nationwide programs, we believe that goal is within reach,” said the two-time Olympian and former Batangas 1st District Congressman.

PAI is set to intensify its grassroots initiatives through a series of short- and long-course competitions, alongside Aquatics Lifesaver Training programs in partnership with the Philippine Life Saving and International Lifesaving Federation.

At the same time, preparations are underway for national tryouts across open water swimming, artistic swimming, diving, and water polo. These will form the national pool for upcoming international competitions, including the Asian Games.

With leadership continuity secured, PAI now turns its focus on delivering results—both at home and on the world stage.
