Bell-Kenz Pharma, PSC join forces to strengthen Life-Saving Readiness in Philippine Sports

Through ‘Sagip CPR’, the partnership will bring hands-only CPR and drowning-response training to 2,000 national athletes, para-athletes, coaches, and members of the Philippine Sports community.

In a major push to strengthen emergency preparedness in Philippine Sports, Bell-Kenz Pharma and the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) are joining forces to equip the country’s sports community with life-saving skills of Hands Only CPR though ‘Sagip CPR’ – a Bell-Kenz Pharma’s flagship advocacy.

The initiative draws inspiration from the experience of basketball legend Samboy Lim, whose cardiac arrest during an exhibition game in 2014 helped highlight the critical importance of immediate emergency response that contributed to the passage of Republic Act, 10871, or the Basic Life Support Training in Schools Act, known as the Samboy Lim Law.

Anchored in this legislation, Bell-Kenz, together with the PSC, Department of Health, National Youth Commission, Philippine Life Saving, and the Philippine Coast Guard will bring Hands Only CPR and drowning-response training to 2,000 members of the Philippine sports community on October 27-29 at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

“In sports, we celebrate the victories that happen on the playing field. But there is no greater victory than saving life. Through the partnership with the Philippine Sports Commission, we want to empower our athletes, coaches, and sports communities with the skills and confidence to respond when every second counts. Because being a champion is not just about winning games – it is also about having the ability to save lives,” said Patrick Larraga, Corporate Communications and Public Affairs Head, Bell-Kenz Pharma.

As Essential Skill and Sustainable Livelihood

A key highlight of the drowning module tests the athletes on preventive measures and proper procedures for responding to drowning emergencies. These skills are not only crucial in CPR but are key skills for other roles.

In addition to Bell-Kenz Pharma and the PSC, the initiative Saving, an internationally recognized  organization that provides lifeguard certifications and promotes best practices in water safety and rescue operations.

As sports organizations, government institution, and private sector partners work together , the initiative reinforces the importance of shared responsibility in protecting lives – whether in stadiums, training facilities, swimming pools, or public spaces.

This cross-partnership among Bell-Kenz Pharma, PSC, NYC and Philippine Life Saving proves that when institutions work together for a common goal, they can help communities protect lives and build sustainable livelihoods that will benefit generations to come.
